GenAI Summit SE: Dialogue With OpenAI Policy Team

We joined the GenAI Summit SE Europe and a policy dialogue with Artemis Seaford of OpenAI's Policy Development team, addressing frontier AI and policy, algorithmic use in public systems, infrastructure, and governance. Held on 18 November 2024 at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens, the summit drew over 2,800 participants and 150 speakers, with support from the European Investment Bank and under the auspices of Greece's Ministry of Digital Governance.

Dialogue With OpenAI Policy Team

Artemis Seaford served as Product Policy Manager at OpenAI, where her work centered on identifying and mitigating safety risks tied to the company's new products and developing usage policies for both developers and end users, sitting within OpenAI's broader Policy Development function. She joined OpenAI from Meta, where she led global policy efforts addressing adversarial threats including harassment, espionage, and platform manipulation. Her trajectory reflects how AI labs increasingly staff policy work at the intersection of trust and safety, usage governance, and public-facing regulatory engagement, treating policy not as a downstream compliance function but as integral to how models and products are shaped before and after release.

The GenAI Summit SE Europe is the largest conference in the region focused solely on generative AI, structured across three stages to bridge research and practical deployment across finance, education, healthcare, and public services. Beyond the policy dialogue, the summit placed emphasis on upskilling, offering workshops and certification pathways for professionals shaping GenAI strategy within their organizations, alongside sessions on governance, bias, and inclusion as the technology scales across Europe and MENA.
